First Sergeant (Retired) Louis Luna Sr. was a man whose life was defined by service—to his country, his community, and most of all, his family. Born in Plainville, Texas, on November 18, 1945, and a longtime resident of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, he dedicated himself to the values of duty, courage, and compassion.

A proud and decorated Army veteran, Louis answered the call to serve in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm for his bravery and the Purple Heart for his sacrifices. Throughout his distinguished military career, he earned many titles—Senior Drill Sergeant, Airborne Ranger, Master Parachutist, Ranger Instructor, and one of the original members of the 75th Ranger Regiment. His service to our nation culminated in his retirement in 1985, but his mission to serve never ended.

Even after leaving the military, Louis continued to make a difference. As a probation officer and a veterans’ advocate, he became a guiding force for countless individuals, offering support, mentorship, and a strong hand to lift others up. His impact extended beyond his professional roles—his strength, wisdom, and kindness were gifts he shared freely with everyone who knew him.

To his loved ones, he was simply Papas—a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family was his greatest pride, and he embraced every moment with unconditional love and unwavering support. A mentor, a trusted ally, and the loudest cheerleader in the room, Pops left behind a legacy of love, encouragement, and selfless devotion.

Pops, your strength and spirit will never be forgotten. You live on in the hearts of those you touched, and your example will continue to inspire generations to come.
